Does infect deal damage to life?
When a creature with infect deals damage to a player, the player doesn’t lose any life as a result of the damage—he or she gets that many poison counters instead. If a player ever has ten or more poison counters, that player loses the game.

Do infect counters stay on creatures?
The -1/-1 counters remain on the creature indefinitely. They’re not removed if the creature regenerates or the turn ends.
Can you get rid of infect counters MTG?
Counters can be removed. Leeches was in the Homelands set. I’ve seen comments that suggest that this is intentional, that they didn’t/don’t want poison to become like life, just another counter that can be moved up or down by all sorts of things.
How much infect can you lose?
Each creature with infect, and all cards that gave infect and/or positively affected creatures with infect, were printed with the Phyrexian watermark. If a player has ten or more poison counters, they lose the game. In Two-Headed Giant, it’s fifteen or more.
