All EL Panels (also called Light Boxes, Light Panels, Lite Panels and Luminescent Panels) are a paper thin laminated panels made from the element Phosphor that has a great glow when an electrical current AND high frequency passes. In order to light up, every EL Panel requires an inverter to operate.

Are EL panels waterproof?

Its covered in what seems to be PVC, the tape is thus weather-proof – but note that the connectors are NOT waterproof, just a bit of heatshrink. This isn’t something we would suggest leaving outdoors for extended periods.

Can El sheets cut?

Note: These panels can be cut to any shape! Regular scissors work fine to cut this EL panel but after you’ve cut the panel you should seal the exposed edges with some tape or epoxy to avoid shorting the panel or shocking yourself.

When comparing to other LED mediums, like televisions or monitors, which typically range from 200-350cd/m2, they do not appear as bright, however they use far less power, are flexible, and can even be made into various shapes, or even logos.

Similar to EL Panels, VynEL™ Lighting is a specialized lighting strip which is EVEN more flexible, providing brighter light output (around 300cd/m2). The added flexibility of VynEL™ panels makes them easy to integrate into fabrics and other materials.

How do you make an El panel white?

To make a white panel, manufacturers add a pink fluorescent dye to blue-green phosphor making the panel appear pink when “off” and bluish white when “on”. EL panels can have an acceptable white appearance when a graphic printed on white film is placed on the panel to help reduce some of the blue color found in the white panel.
