What is Narcan training?

The Layperson Naloxone (NARCAN) training course will teach you how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and administer the opioid overdose reversal drug Naloxone.

How do you use Narcan step by step?

Gently insert the tip of the nozzle into one nostril, until your fingers on either side of the nozzle are against the bottom of the person’s nose. Press the plunger firmly to give the dose of Narcan® Nasal Spray. Remove the Narcan® Nasal Spray from the nostril after giving the dose.

Do you have to be trained to use naloxone?

Persons providing naloxone should have the training necessary to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose, and understand what steps to take. It is recommended that these individuals have training in first aid, including cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

With the right tools, bystanders can act to prevent overdose deaths. Anyone can carry naloxone, give it to someone experiencing an overdose, and potentially save a life. Naloxone won’t harm someone3 if they’re overdosing on drugs other than opioids, so it’s always best to use it if you think someone is overdosing.

What does Narcan do if your sober?

Narcan doesn’t have an effect on a person who’s sober from opioids. (“Sober” means they don’t have any opioids in their system.) If you suspect, but aren’t certain, that a person has overdosed on opioids, you should still give them a dose of Narcan.

Can you keep Narcan in your car?

Naloxone is a fairly stable medication, with a shelf life between 18 months and two years. IN and IM naloxone should be stored between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit, and should be kept away from direct sunlight. In most law enforcement settings, naloxone can be stored in the cab of the vehicle.

Will Narcan get you high?

No. the only effect of naloxone is to reverse the effect of opioids. It cannot make you high: if you are not using opioids, an injection of naloxone would feel the same as an injection of water. Naloxone has no potential for abuse or dependency.

What does Narcan make you feel like?

These include body aches, a fever, sweating, runny nose, sneezing, goose bumps, yawning, weakness, shivering or trembling, nervousness, restlessness or irritability, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, stomach cramps, fast heartbeat, and increased blood pressure.

Can you carry Narcan on a plane?

Currently, passenger airlines aren’t required to carry Narcan on board by the Federal Aviation Administration. However, in 2018, the Flight Attendants Association issued a statement in which they came out in favor of adding Narcan to onboard emergency medical kits.
